  Dear David,

I’m glad you’ll come to Beijing to learn Chinese. Chinese is very useful, and many foreigners are learning it now. It’s difficult for you because it’s quite different from English. You have to remember as many Chinese words as possible. It’s also important to do some reading and writing. You can watch TV and listen to the radio to practice your listening. Do your best to talk with people in Chinese. You can learn Chinese not only from books but also from people around you. If you have any questions, please ask me. I’m sure you’ll learn Chinese well.

Hope to see you soon in Beijing

  Yours,

  Wang Ming

  Dear Tom,

Thanks for your letter which finally caught up with me in London. I suppose youre keen to hear how the trip has been so far. So heres a short description of whats happened.

Well, you remember we left Sydney on Monday and arrived in London 24 hours later. After such a long and exhausting flight the first thing we did was to have a good, long sleep. And after that?a good meal to make up for all that horrible airline stuff!

The first real day of our holiday was spent just walking around London to get a feel of the place. After that, however, we were more particular and planned each day carefully.

First, we looked at all the historical sights, such as the Tower of London, the Houses of Parliament, the British Museum and the National Gallery. Then we visited some other famous places, such as Kew Gardens and Hampstead Heath. Finally, we took a one-day trip to Oxford, which is really the most marvelous town. You should make sure to go there when you visit England.

After we had seen a lot of London, we flew to Paris. A t first, we didnt like the place-I suppose because it was so different from London. Later, though, we began to really love it and started to appreciate its differentness.

The final stage of our trip is a visit to Rome, after which we will be staying in Singapore for two days before returning to Australia.

Hope everyone is well. See you soon.

  Dear Mr. John,

How are things going with you in Beijing?

The Dragon Boat Festival (Dragon Boat Festival) is a traditional Chinese festival, which is held on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, also known as the "Double Fifth Festival" Since then, in other parts of East Asia and the west, people celebrate the festival in various ways. The exact origin of the festival is not clear. However, there is a traditional view that the Dragon Boat Festival is to commemorate Qu Yuan, a Chinese poet during the Warring States period.

He committed suicide because he hated the corruption of the Chu government and the local people, and knew that he was a good man People, therefore, decided to throw food into the river to feed the fish, so that they would not eat Qu Yuans body. They also sat on a long and narrow dragon boat and tried to scare the fish away with the sound of drums on the boat and the ferocious dragon head carved on the bow. During the period of the Republic of China, the Dragon Boat Festival was also known as "poets Day".

Because Qu Yuan was Chinas first poet of personal fame, today people eat glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo, which are called zongzi (the food originally used to raise fish) and race Dragon boat in memory of Qu Yuans dramatic death.

Thank you for your letter of 20 January 20xx. We are disappointed to hear that our price for Flame cigarette lighters is too high for you to work on. You mention that Japanese goods are being offered to you at a price approximately 10% lower than that quoted by us.

We accept what you say,but we are of the opinion that the quality of the other makes does not measure up to that of our products.

Although we are keen to do business with you,we regret that we cannot accept your counter offer or even meet you half way.

The best we can do is to reduce our previous quotation by 2%. We trust that this will meet with your approval. We look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Xiao Wang,I am delighted to know that you will be able to visit me for a week during the National Day holiday. I am looking forward to your visit and to the opportunity to catch up. Welcome to my home in Nanjing!

As you know, Nanjing has many places of interest to see, to discover, and to enjoy. Among its historical sites are stone city wall, the Confucius Temple with its magnificent night view, and Dr. Sun Yetsens Mausoleum. With all its universities, Nanjing is a cultural center, offering an abundance of artistic and musical performances. Its also a city of beautiful gardens and parks, such as the Xuanwu Lake Park. With all these features, we will have a fun-filled week, especially that in early-October, there are many sunny and mild days for outdoor activities. So, I would suggest visiting these places first, and deciding on the others as our week develops.

Finally, since at this time of the year the weather gets a little chilly in the evening, I would suggest that you bring some warm clothing with you. Also, as there will be crowds of people at the stations and on the trains, you need to be very careful with your belongings!

Best wishes for a pleasant journey!

While many types of frauds exist at present, telephone and e-mail frauds are two inexpensive and popular methods for criminals distributing deceitful messages to potential victims. A great many of peoples processions are lost annually and the losses continue to escalate. How can we protect ourselves from telephone and e-mail frauds? In my opinion, one way to avoid the frauds is to protect our personal information and never let it leak out.

Most frauds are carried out by criminals trying to obtain access to our personal information such as account numbers and passwords. For example, you may receive a fake e-mail saying that you have won the lottery or got a lucky number, or you get a phone call or an e-mail asking you to call a given number to cancel an expensive service you did not subscribe to. In such cases, we must be very careful and do not trust any unknown sources asking for personal information by e-mail or by phone. Never respond to them. You wont receive any riches, and in fact you may get into legal trouble if you get involved in one of these scams.

On the whole, we must be aware of the tricks of telephone and e-mail frauds. Criminals are usually after our private information. They want to trick us into giving away private information either by calling them or handing it over online. Therefore, look before you leap and keep your personal information safe.

  Dear Sirs:

Thank you for your letter of 20 January 20xx. We are disappointed to hear that our price for Flame cigarette lighters is too high for you to work on. You mention that Japanese goods are being offered to you at a price approximately 10% lower than that quoted by us.

We accept what you say, but we are of the opinion that the quality of the other makes does not measure up to that of our products.Although we are keen to do business with you,we regret that we cannot accept your counter offer or even meet you half way.

The best we can do is to reduce our previous quotation by 2%. We trust that this will meet with your approval. We look forward to hearing from you.

  Yours faithfully,

  Tony Smith Chief Seller.

I have to tell them my every exam and my grades.

If I do well, they are happy. If I don’t, they would be every sad and nervous, especially my mother.

My mother even makes a detailed plan for my future.

But I don’t like it; I want to be a journalist.

I feel so upset about her plan.

I told them my feelings before, but they never listened to me and said what they doing are good for me.

  What should I do?

"Here comes uncles letter!" I shouted happily. But this letter was different from those he sent to me before. It was an email! My uncle went to the United States long ago. But he cared about my study and life very much. So he wrote me often.

But it would take a long time for his letter to arrive. Several years later, my family set up a telephone set, It became easier for us to communicate, but we cost more money by calling each other. Now we both had a computer and could get on the Intemet. Then we could talk to each other any time we wanted to, and it wouldn't cost much. The world is changing, and it is changing better and better.
